INSTRUCTOR - EQUITY AND INCLUSION UNIT, ONTARIO POLICE COLLEGE

 

 

AMY COOK IS A MENTAL HEALTH ADVOCATE, HUMAN RIGHTS CHAMPION, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT EDUCATOR. AMY'S PORTFOLIO INCLUDES DIVERSITY AND PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE WHICH ENCOMPASSES HUMAN RIGHTS, HATE, INDIGENOUS AWARENESS TRAINING, ETHICS, FAIR AND IMPARTIAL POLICING, AND RESPONDING EFFECTIVELY TO VICTIMS OF CRIME. AMY IS ALSO THE LEAD FOR ELDER ABUSE INVESTIGATIONS AND HAS BEEN INVOLVED IN TRAINING RELATED TO DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND HUMAN TRAFFICKING.

AMY BEGAN HER CAREER IN INSTITUTIONAL CORRECTIONS AS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER HAVING OPPORTUNITY TO WORK IN A MAXIMUM SECURITY INSTITUTION, A CORRECTIONAL CENTRE, AND A TREATMENT SETTING. FOLLOWING THAT, SHE MOVED TO A COMMUNITY SETTING AS AN INTENSIVE SUPERVISION PROBATION AND PAROLE OFFICER. DURING THIS TIME, AMY WAS A MEMBER OF THE INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAM THAT DEVELOPED AND SUCCESSFULLY OPENED THE ADULT THERAPEUTIC COURT IN LONDON, ONTARIO. GIVEN HER EXPERIENCE IN THE THEME OF MENTAL HEALTH, AMY TRANSITIONED INTO A PROJECT WITH CORPORATE CORRECTIONS AS THE ASSOCIATE SUBJECT MATTER EXPERT DEVELOPING THE EMPLOYEE MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS INITIATIVE.

 

COMMITTED TO LEARNING AND GIVING BACK, AMY IS A DEDICATED VOLUNTEER; SHE IS A TEAM LEADER WITH VICTIM SERVICES OF MIDDLESEX, LONDON AND A DIRECTOR WITH THE MIDDLESEX LONDON CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION. AMY SITS ON A NUMBER OF COMMITTEES, INCLUDED BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE INCLUSION BUREAU FOR WEST REGION ONTARIO PROVINCIAL POLICE AND THE DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION COMMITTEE WITH THE ONTARIO ASSOCIATION OF CHIEFS OF POLICE.

KELLY CETNARSKI IS A VICTIM/WITNESS SERVICES WORKER WITH THE VICTIM/WITNESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM IS AFFILIATED WITH ONTARIO VICTIM SERVICES AND THE VICTIMS AND VULNERABLE PERSONS DIVISION THROUGH THE MINISTRY OF THE ATTORNEY GENERAL. SPECIFICALLY, KELLY WORKS THROUGH THE NEWMARKET COURTHOUSE.

LINDA KOCOVSKI

FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST, ONTARIO FORENSIC PATHOLOGY SERVICE
 

 

LINDA KOCOVSKI IS A FORENSIC PATHOLOGIST AT THE PROVINCIAL FORENSIC PATHOLOGY UNIT IN TORONTO, AND AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN THE DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY AND MOLECULAR MEDICINE AT MCMASTER UNIVERSITY. HER POSTSECONDARY EDUCATION INCLUDES AN HONOURS BACHELOR OF SCIENCE DEGREE IN FORENSIC SCIENCE AND ANTHROPOLOGY FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO MISSISSAUGA, A MEDICAL DEGREE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, AND GENERAL PATHOLOGY SPECIALTY TRAINING AND FORENSIC PATHOLOGY SUBSPECIALTY TRAINING FROM MCMASTER UNIVERSITY.
 

 

HER PAST WORK HAS INCLUDED WORKING WITH THE HEALTH POLICY BRANCH OF HEALTH CANADA, THE INSTITUTE OF GENETICS OF CANADIAN INSTITUTE OF HEALTH RESEARCH, AND THE ROYAL CANADIAN MOUNTED POLICE AS A FORENSIC SEARCH TECHNICIAN IN VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA. HER CURRENT WORK CONSISTS OF PERFORMING POSTMORTEM EXAMINATIONS ON INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE DIED SUDDENLY, UNEXPECTEDLY, OR UNDER SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES. SHE IS CURRENTLY WORKING WITH THE BLENDED INVESTIGATIVE TEAM THAT IS UNDERTAKING REINVESTIGATION OF DEATHS IN THUNDER BAY, AS RECOMMENDED IN BROKEN TRUST – THE REPORT OF THE OFFICE OF THE INDEPENDENT POLICE REVIEW DIRECTOR.

RASMUS ROSENBERG LARSEN

 

RASMUS R. LARSEN IS AN ASSISTANT PROFESSOR IN THE FORENSIC SCIENCE PROGRAM AND DEPARTMENT OF PHILOSOPHY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TORONTO MISSISSAUGA (UTM). HE HOLDS A PH.D IN PHILOSOPHY FROM THE UNIVERSITY AT BUFFALO AND HAS BEEN EMPLOYED AT UTM SINCE 2017.

 

HE LECTURES MAINLY ON MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES IN LEGAL CONTEXTS, AS WELL AS THE BROADER CHALLENGES PERTAINING TO THE APPLICATION OF SCIENTIFIC KNOWLEDGE IN FORENSIC PRACTICES. HIS RESEARCH AREA OF SPECIALIZATION SPANS OVER VARIOUS SCIENTIFIC DOMAINS AND DISCIPLINES, HOWEVER, MOST NOTABLY, FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY AND PSYCHIATRY, APPLIED ODONTOLOGY, AND BIOETHICS. 

 

HIS MOST RECENT RESEARCH FOCUSES ON THE CLINICAL ASSESSMENT OF PSYCHOPATHIC PERSONALITY DISORDER (OR PSYCHOPATHY), A PSYCHIATRIC CONSTRUCT WIDELY UTILIZED IN FORENSIC SETTINGS ACROSS THE WORLD. HIS PUBLISHED WORK HAS CONTINUOUSLY VOICED CONCERNS ABOUT THE SCIENTIFIC VALIDITY OF THE CONSTRUCT, WHICH IN TURN RAISES PRESSING ETHICAL CONCERNS ABOUT ITS USE IN THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM.
